Indian students who aspire or dream of studying in abroad university or school are initially very enthusiastic even by the thought of it that they will be able to get an immense global exposure in all the areas of their life. Though, many of them got their head developing certain misconceptions and myths about studying abroad which totally need to be busted. Also, people here in India are quite skeptical towards many things, especially the Indian parents worry a lot and due to these misconceptions and misbeliefs, many dreams get shattered every year, with students stepping back.

So here in this article, we are going to bust 6 myths about study abroad  & put the light on real facts. So that you never have to back yourself from fulfilling your dreams because of false conceptions.

Myth 1: Attaining Abroad Education is way too expensive

The cost of abroad education is no doubt very high as compared to education in India but the returns it offers are endless. The costs vary according to factors like university, location, duration of the program, the type of program, etc. So, it’s very important to do proper research, planning, and budgeting for actually converting this wish into a reality. You can get financial assistance in the form of scholarships and education loans from banks. Most Indian students after attaining an abroad education grab the job & then manage to pay the loan in equal monthly installments (EMI).

Myth 2: Studying abroad is unsafe

All foreign universities make strict policies related to any harassment of students and make sure their students follow strict rules and regulations for ensuring the safety of international students both outside and inside the campus. Any country is safe, as long as we follow common sense, have to trust in our instincts and be aware of our overall surroundings.

Myth 3: Studying abroad is all about fun & enjoyment

Students often think that studying abroad is all about relaxing, traveling, having fun, and partying. Yes, you will definitely get to explore many pleasurable activities and get to make new friends with whom can hang around but you also would have to devote quite much time towards your studies, attending college, participating in activities and internships to hone up your skills, etc. It will require you to put up a lot of hard work and dedication as well. You will be there to make your career. Studying abroad is the greatest opportunity to grow professionally as well as personally.

Myth 4: It’s too late to start study abroad plans

It’s never too late to chase your dreams. You can start your journey anytime you feel is right.

Sometimes students suffer from an education gap due to reasons like dropping out from college, health issues, moving to a different place, financial issues, etc. Indian students often worry a lot about the education gap that they had to unfortunately bear before applying to any foreign university. All that education gap doesn’t matter at all if you have a proper and reasonable explanation for the same. It would be best if you can show work experience throughout.

So, this study abroad myth needs to be busted that it is not too late to think of any abroad education plans.

Myth 5: Some employers do not value international degrees in your home country.

In this era of globalization, all kinds of businesses are expanding across borders. International experience in terms of education or work will always give you an edge over others. If you compare Indian universities with foreign universities (Indian universities vs foreign universities), you will always see abroad universities with more positive points to consider.

Foreign degrees are highly recognizable and appreciable, with also Indian students developing global exposure and varied skills after taking up abroad education, there’s no doubt on employers not valuing the international degrees.

In fact, it will keep you ahead of your competition in the job market and you will especially attract companies who work across borders and are on the lookout for students with cross-cultural skills. Attaining an international degree helps in adding an extra spark to your CV.

Myth 6: It is quite difficult to secure admission to the top international university.

Foreign universities are always ready to welcome students from diverse cultural backgrounds and young minds generally from all across the globe. They like to seek talented and skilled students from any corner of the world who have a zeal to learn and upgrade themselves more. Generally, students think that they need good grades to study abroad but unlike India, abroad universities consider your overall profile rather than just considering your grades.

You just need to come up with a great application together with the SOP (Statement of Purpose) satisfying all the essential requirements. An SOP document is extremely relevant for applying nowadays at a foreign university. The Statement of Purpose is like an essay, stating the purpose of your application for a particular course. It states the nitty-gritty of who you are, who you want to become, and how much ready you are to take up a definite course in a university or institution.

Sometimes students wonder if they do have to know the foreign language to study abroad, but that is not completely true, English has become the standard for international education. Studying abroad is in fact all about challenging yourself with unfamiliar situations. You should not hold yourself back just for not knowing the language. You can very easily learn basic phrases of the local language & enjoy your journey by making new friends around the world. You can also choose an English-speaking country for higher education destination.

Conclusion

So, it’s really important to not get into any myths or rumors which can hamper your dreams or determinations of getting into an abroad university. Though attaining an abroad education can be sometimes full of obstacles and challenges but there’s definitely a way out to face each and every challenge coming in your way. You need to stay away from myths about Study Abroad.

Indian Education system is good but old and hardly updated. The world & workforce is changing at a very faster rate. We need to bring changes in our learning methodology. In the name of up gradation, our curriculum gets changed, but methods remain the same.

While in other countries like the UK, USA, Australia, Canada & European countries, the education system is also changed according to the industry and global job market.

Indian Education system can never be in a better position in terms of education when compared to Foreign Education system in the top-notch countries like U.S.A, Australia, European Countries, etc. Only because we as students are only bothered about getting marks & grades.

Honestly speaking, it is not even your fault because our minds are conditioned by our parents and society in that way. We start keeping things aside which we like to do and start running behind what our parents or teachers tell us to do.

As we know, India is the fastest developing nation in the world but still, we are far behind in changing our rigid education structure where it is hardly any scope of practical and on-field learning. Even the Indian parents still just want their child to get high grades and attaining knowledge but when it comes to real implementation and gaining skills, we are lagging far behind in molding our child’s overall personality and qualities according to that.

There is a lack of proper initiative and more funds for enhancing or developing its core education system and for bringing it at par with the education system of other developed nations. We need to think beyond the cluster of a knowledge-based nation and move on from the old curriculum and approach of learning to a new and fulfilling one.

Here we will have a look at the basic differences between Indian Education and Foreign Education. We will also understand why Foreign Education System is better.

  1. The biggest difference is that the Indian Education system is built on a theory-based approach whereas the Foreign Education System focuses on all practical implementation. The theory-centered approach in India makes it a monotonous and less interesting approach to learning but the practical-oriented approach of Foreign Education is able to instill more interest among the students when they get to actually implement the theoretical learning gained.
  1. Here in India, attaining a degree is valued more rather than the actual knowledge and practical experience but the foreign education system is purely focused on preparing students practically to make them industry-ready. Working for part-time jobs is allowed for students. Many courses are with internships which allows students to work in a real-time work environment. In India, students are hardly given an opportunity to work & learn. Let’s take an example, the UK education system vs. Indian education system. In the UK,  there are many courses that are with compulsory or optional placement year which gives you an opportunity to work and learn.
  1. If you have got good marks, then you are considered eligible to explore any stream or course of study in India but the foreign education recognizes that every student has a hidden talent inside him and should definitely not restrict oneself if one has a keen interest in something. A very relatable case we often come across at schools in India is when only top scorers are encouraged to choose science and others are underestimated and advised to choose the commerce/art side.
  1. Education in India is still lagging behind in spite of the latest technological progress and advancements. Educational institutions in the USA, UK, Australia, and many other countries have actually transformed their classrooms into great virtual and interesting learning experiences, thus, in turn, making students understand the concepts in an engaging manner.
  1. Indian Education system wants its students to just probably have a good memory to memorize all the facts and figures, their assessment is done on their best ability to do that job. Hundreds of equations in mathematics, chemical reactions of chemistry, all the static facts in general knowledge and not to forget to mug up the all-time boring subject history. On the other hand, Foreign Education especially focuses on the development of skills of a student actual practical execution of all the concepts.
  1. The Foreign Education curriculum is made in such a manner that the students have to compulsorily take any specific activity of interest like sports, dance, music, etc whatsoever along with their core subjects. However, there is no great room for other co-curricular activities in the educational setup in India.

7.  Indian Education system is such as it has developed a habit among students to choose their educational field for higher education   according to the ongoing trend. Like, if the majority of their friends are opting for computer engineering going with the trend, they are also most likely to go with the same flow or on the advice of their peers or family. Students in foreign countries choose that particular  field where their talent and passion actually lie.

8. Indian Education system largely believes in having good grades and certificates and do not recognize the portfolio built and developed  by the students as the Foreign Education System considers. Thus as we can see Indian Education system has got a lot to upgrade itself from its former structure and old curriculum.

We hardly see any of the Indian universities (Leaving few IITs and IIMs – again these colleges are only for toppers as all students sit for the same 3- hours entrance exam and then they are judged on the basis of their results in that one exam.) securing a position even in top 100 universities in the world.

If you are looking to have a fruitful career for your overall personal and professional growth in the global workforce, then you will have to change the education system first. I think that wouldn’t be a great idea.  (LOL)

But you can choose to study abroad and explore the world. I understand, studying abroad is not an easy process as it involves a lot of research, preparations, money, and understanding of the complete process.

SOP writing: It’s Not as Difficult as You Think

SOP means Statement of Purpose. It plays a vital role in the process of studying abroad. Universities ask students to submit documents with clarification of path and career goals..SOP remains the most important factor to securing a student visa in a foreign country. It plays a vital role in your admission process. That’s the source for the admission committee to peek at your background and narrate the purpose of your application and your study plans. You should justify why you’re a good candidate and what the prospects are for you after your education in a foreign country. Many students find it difficult to write SOP, so here is some information about what is a Statement of Purpose(SOP).?

What is an SOP? –

Among all the documents, this is the most important document. It defines your personality, what you have achieved and what you know about universities, why you want to join a university, your beliefs, objectives, visions, and topics. Your Statement of Purpose is the best thanks to standing out among the various applications colleges receive on a regular basis and helps distinguish you from your grades. Sure, universities might also keep it question-based. It is the most integral part of your application that decides your admission to your most popular establishment.

Purpose of an SOP-

The SOP is the decision-maker of your application. It helps the admissions committee assess your fighting life, your career goals, beliefs, subject information, and your vision. In short, a literate SOP paints your overall temperament for the schools. It is a chance to pitch your purpose to the committee and the reasons why they ought to select you over other candidates. A decent SOP works nicely for weak tutorial profiles whereby you will compensate by highlighting your future goals and ambitions. A literate SOP additionally reflects, however, well you will categorize your thoughts’ victimization of your writing skills. This will help the committee to assess your life ahead on the basis of your career goals, beliefs, subject knowledge, and vision.

Why So important-

The Statement of Purpose (SOP) is the head of your application. It helps the admissions committee assess your fighting life, your career goals, beliefs, subject information, and your vision. In short, a literate SOP paints your overall temperament for the schools. It’s a chance to pitch your purpose to the committee and the reasons why they ought to select you over other candidates. A decent SOP works impressively for weak tutorial profiles wherever you’ll compensate by highlighting your future goals and ambitions. A literate SOP additionally reflects, however, well you’ll categorize your thoughts through the victimization of your writing skills.

How to Write a Statement of Purpose –

In your  paragraph, provide a temporary introduction of who you are. Focus on what drives you to pursue the program you are curious about. This is where you will invite experience associated with your required field of study. Embrace any extracurricular activities, work experience, sports groups, or clubs that will enhance your studies in your future program. Discuss why you selected that particular university and what you are worth to that establishment. This could be a good way to demonstrate your knowledge of the school’s history and name while showing admissions officers that you’re dedicated to the long-run success of the university. Discuss what you hope to achieve with this degree. This is often wherever you define your next steps and what you propose to require far from this study expertise.

Mention your academic information, work experience, and industry you should be part of.  You must explain your long-term professional goal of long years. You should explain why you choose a university over another university or why not choose a university from your native place. Discuss What you must achieve with your degree.

Here are some simple steps to write an SOP.

1.Make sure your content is justified.

2.Be clear with your intentions.

3.Refer to the internet for successful SOPs.

4.State your purposes.

5.Be concise.

6.Make a draft.

7.Check for readability.

8.Keep it simple.

9.Revise

It’s vital to review what you’ve written. Reanalyzing can facilitate correcting the flow, vocabulary, sentence construction errors, long sentences, and different descriptive linguistics problems.
